Library Direct Needs More Volunteers

Written by

Love reading? Library Direct makes books available to everyone!

Surrey Libraries and its dedicated volunteers work hard to make sure the library service can reach and support everyone.

Many of Surrey’s residents are unable to get to their local library due to ill health, disability, mobility problems or caring responsibilities. But thanks to the Library Direct service this barrier is being removed.

Library Direct LogoLibrary Direct allows individuals to once again select their own books, and have dedicated volunteers deliver them right to their doors. In addition to having complete access to library stock, this services also helps to combat isolation. Volunteers will often stop for a coffee and chat, and in many cases, form friendships with the people they are visiting.

This service is a completely free and comes with additional benefits for its clients, such as extended loan periods and amount of books you can borrow, plus no fines or overdue charges.

As well as supporting individuals in their homes, Library Direct has a Community Settings service. This service uses Library Direct volunteers to deliver books to settings such as care homes and rehabilitation centres.

We are currently looking for more volunteers in the Chobham/Woking area to enable us to deliver this service to residents no longer able to visit the library themselves.
